LIKE WATER

This is for you, Paul.

This is a song lyric by my wonderful partner, Paul Sabuco. The song is called "Like Water," and it is an unbelievably beautiful song. While it's on our play list, we rarely play it. It is very personal to Paul, and he has to be in a certain mood to want to perform it live. Perhaps it will be on the next CD we release!

This Thing We Do

This thing we do, it's not Earth shattering. This writing, playing, singing songs. It's no big deal.
We're artists, I guess. We would create, in some form or another, no matter what. Music is a means for our expression. But, it's no big deal. It's just what we do.

Playing shows/gigs is just a part of it. But, we love it! And, there's good reason that we do.

As far as shows go, we are a commodity; we are, essentially, hired by the venue to provide musical entertainment in an effort to boost the venue's drink and food sales. We are, of course, compensated for our efforts. It's ok, but it's no way to get rich. The old joke goes," How do you make a million dollars in the music biz? Start with 2 million."

We have a great time at our gigs. We love playing and singing together and sharing that love with our friends and other music lovers. It's a lot of fun. As John Lennon was quoted as saying, when he saw his first Elvis movie, "That looks like a good job!" It is.

There is one thing that makes this thing we do maybe just a little bit important.

When we play our music (we and everyone else who does what we do...we're not special), sometimes, people get involved. Not all the time...admittedly, there are gigs on which we are, more or less, background music while people have dinner or watch the big game on the big TV. But, sometimes, many times actually, people get involved. They start groovin' to what we're doing, singing along or dancing, laughing at our silly jokes. It gets good, this thing we do!

And the reason it's just a little bit important when this happens is this;
Life can get hard. Things can get messed up. And, when people are groovin' and singing along or dancing or laughing at our silly jokes, they're not worrying about other things. Even if it's just for a minute or two, when they're singing, dancing or laughing, they're not thinking about the mortgage that needs to be paid or the son or daughter who's having trouble in school or the stress of work or poor health. They are, for that short time, totally in the moment with us and we're thrilled and happy to take them there!

In short, if we can make you forget your problems for a sec...we're happy to do so. We think that's a great gift to give to someone.

Music, film, literature...all art becomes part of us while it simultaneously offers us escape.

Escape with us sometime soon...it's fun, this thing we do

It's, by far, the best thing we can do!

LYRICS to YET ANOTHER SONG!

Maybe it's not something most people are interested in, but I've always enjoyed having written lyrics to songs I like by other people. Most of the time it's because I can't understand all of the words on the recording... Hopefully we are enunciating clearly enough when we sing, but who knows?

Anyway, here are the lyrics to another one from LIME DROP.

Monica Smiles

When Monica smiles
The sun gets shy
The moon wants to cry
And the wind just sighs
When Monica smiles

When Monica walks by
All the boys try to catch her eye
She doesn't seem to notice, she's rarely impressed
When Monica sings her song
All the boys wanna sing along
Everyone thinks Monica's the best

When Monica smiles
The sun gets shy
The moon wants to cry
And the wind just sighs
When Monica smiles

I remember when I saw her for the first time
Walking in the park all alone
The next day when I called her she said—Come on over
She said—You better be here before I hang up the phone

When Monica smiles
The sun gets shy
The moon wants to cry
And the wind just sighs
When Monica smiles

When Monica goes Downtown
All the boys wanna hang around
She doesn't seem to notice, she couldn't care less
When Monica's out at night
All the boys wanna get it right
Everyone thinks Monica's the best

When Monica smiles
The sun gets shy
The moon wants to cry
And the wind just sighs
When Monica...
Monica smiles
The sun gets shy
The moon wants to cry
And the wind just sighs
When Monica smiles
When Monica smiles
When Monica smiles
When Monica smiles

And I would walk a hundred miles
For Monica's smile

KUDOS TO GLORIA!

I'm just going to take a minute or two (see what I did there?) to point out what a great job my partner in musical crime, Gloria Roubal, has been doing lately.

Over her Winter break from classes and, despite having several other design projects in the works, she has been working tirelessly to get our debut CD, Lime Drop, finished up and ready for release. While the track recording and mastering have been completed for some time now, I had no idea how much is involved in the steps that follow. Gloria has designed and created all of the artwork for the CD package (with photography brilliantly created by Della Perrone). She has worked with both of the studios we used in getting all of the digital data squared away and to the right places. Basically, we wrote the songs, recorded and mixed them together...everything after that has been in Gloria's capable hands.
She asks me for input and, sometimes, asks me to do this little thing or that, but really, it's all her.
Without her talent, skill and know-how, Lime Drop would never see the light of day!

AND...while doing all of that, she also took the time and creative energy to design our brand new website, www.paulandgloriamusic.com! She also got us represented on soundcloud, twitter, yelp!, and this blog site!

AND...somehow, we even managed to get together and play a few shows over the break!!
We also got together a few times to work on new material!!

Gloria Roubal is awesome! End of story!

Paul & Gloria Lyrics - Something About Love

I think it's pretty easy to understand the words to our songs, but in case you want the written lyrics, I thought I'd post some of them. I'll start with Something About Love, the first track on LIME DROP. Stay tuned for more!

SOMETHING ABOUT LOVE
Copyright Paul & Gloria 2014

I used to be so open minded
I used to see the stars above
I used to say all of the right things
I used to know something 'bout love

I used to be someone to lean on
I used to fit just like a glove
I used to be someone to talk to
I used to know something 'bout love

I don't know much anymore
Not aware of too much anymore

I don't wanna love anybody
I don't wanna love anyone
I've learned all of my lessons
Now I'm happy on my own

I used to be so open minded
I used to see the stars above
I used to say all of the right things
I used to know something 'bout love

I don't know much anymore
Not aware of too much anymore

I don't wanna love anybody
I don't wanna love anyone
I've learned all of my lessons
Now I'm happy on my own

But once in awhile I remember
Every now and then I believe
Then it seems so easy
Oh so easy, flowing freely
Back to me, back to me (ooooh)

I used to see a happy ending
I used to fly just like a dove
I used to be so openhearted
I used to know something 'bout love

I don't know much anymore
Not aware of too much anymore

I don't wanna love anybody
I don't wanna love anyone
I've learned all of my lessons
Now I'm happy on my own
Now I'm happy on my own

Not aware of too much anymore
But I used to know something 'bout love
I used to know something 'bout love
I used to know something 'bout love
I used to know something 'bout love (ooooh)
